Getting Started
An introduction to how Share-IT works.
Share-IT is a Content Management System (CMS). It allows users to post and view content such as pages, calendars, files, blogs, etc.
Information for Readers
It is fairly straightforward to click around the site and view content. The navigation tabs at the top provide easy access to the main areas of the site. The navigation pane on the left provides access to these major areas, as well, but also allows you to easily drill down into sub-folders. The content is structured through folders and content items, like most modern desktop managers, and should be relatively familiar. Content appears in the large middle area, as no doubt you have noticed by now. The recent changes pane on the left lists recent site changes, enabling you to see at a glance what is in flux. On the right is a simple calendar. The most difficult aspect for readers currently is knowing how to get access to hidden content. Share-IT has a solid security infrastructure, so you may not be able to see everything on the site. You may request access to content from content owners, who can delegate to you a role that enables you to see particular content. The difficult part is knowing if there is particular hidden content from which you would benefit, since you cannot see what is hidden to know how to request access. Currently, it is likely that, if you are working on a project which requires you to be able to access content, the project leader or a colleague will inform you of the existence of the content. We are working on ways to improve this situation; if you have suggestions, please contact us through Remedy.
Information for Content Providers
You are considered a content provider if you possess the role of writer or owner. A writer can edit pages and add pages. Once a writer adds a page, he or she automatically becomes an owner of that page. An owner can edit, add, and publish pages. He or she can also add individuals or groups of people as readers, writers, or owners. This is done in the Sharing tab in the top navigation bar. An owner can also decided what state or level of visibility the content has. Should the content be visible to the world or just a small well defined group? Owners have the power to do many things. Along with that power is responsibility. Please think first before publishing.
