Technology Roadmap FY07-08 Executive Summary

NETWORK:
· Upgrade network core to 10Gb and desktop connections to 1 Gb
· Improve disaster recovery and redundancy options locally and globally
· Continue firewall deployment and pilot network admission control to improve campus security
· Pilot new technologies in preparation for future deployment (e.g. 802.1x, IPv6, VRF)

WINDOWS:
· Standardize, maintain, secure, and globalize GT windows Active Directory (GTAD) infrastructure and associated services
· Develop, publish and implement campus Windows standards and best practices
· Integrate with OIT new technology initiatives

IDENTITY MANAGEMENT:
· Deploy an extensible Georgia Tech Enterprise Directory (GTED) as the blueprint for GT's authentication, authorization, federation and application-specific data service.
· Automate self-serviceable access controls across campus

ECC (Email, Calendar, Contacts):
· Develop and implement a next generation suite of leading edge solutions for email, calendar, and personal contacts, in a framework that works best with the GT community and supports our needs in teaching, learning, and research.
· The implementation will support ubiquitous mobile access on a global scale. This will provide a foundation to promote and motivate enhancements that will further our quest for excellence.
· The scope of this roadmap also includes synergistic integration with existing departmental or unit email, collaboration and portal services, as part of our ongoing effort to achieve better total cost of ownership and mitigation of overall institutional risks.

PACE - HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTING
· Demonstrate the need for, and assist in planning campus HPC space
· Provide a scalable system administration service for HPC resources
· Provide pre-acquisition HPC resource consulting services for faculty clients and space planners
· Host faculty managed HPC resources in OIT space

STORAGE:
· Increase availability, performance and capacity of key GT data storage while decreasing the total cost of ownership.
· Decrease backup and restore time by utilizing disk-to-disk backups
· Increase disaster recovery & business continuity capacities by mirroring critical data to multiple data sites.
· Provide alternative storage and backup services to campus departments

DIGITAL ASSET MANAGEMENT:
· Provide managed storage and delivery of digital media
· Enable access to media to be restricted to directory objects (courses, groups, persons, etc.)
· Provide an open API for external applications and interfaces
· Provide a web based interface for asset management and policy control
· Integrate with existing institutional repositories (SmartTech)
